SEO Pricing Thailand 2026: Freelance vs Agency Costs Explained

How much does SEO cost in Thailand? Monthly SEO in the Thai market runs from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands of baht, depending on site size, keyword difficulty and the actual work done each month. With Southern Whale, monthly SEO starts from 24,000 THB/year and a Mini SEO Audit is 1,500 THB. The cheapest way to start is to audit the site first, then set a budget from what really needs fixing.
Why SEO Prices in Thailand Range So Widely
Because “SEO service” in Thailand covers very different levels of work. Some providers are one person with automated tools. Others are teams with separate people for technical work, content and outreach. The service has the same name, so the prices look confusing.
When business owners ask us for an SEO quote, the same situations come up again and again:
They paid, but cannot tell what work was done. The monthly report is a keyword ranking table, with no list of which pages were fixed, what was written, or where links came from. Asking gets a vague “we’re pushing it.”
Rankings went up, customers did not. The keywords that ranked were long phrases almost nobody searches. The terms real customers type were never touched.
The report’s rankings don’t match what they see. Often the tool tracks from a different location than the customers, or the report shows an average without explaining how it was measured. For businesses that rely on Google Maps this matters even more, because results change with the searcher’s location.
They were promised page one. Later, the site picked up a large number of odd links from unrelated sites.
Lots of content that doesn’t answer searches. For example, a business selling to Thai customers gets articles translated from English, or generic posts with nothing specific to the business.
None of this means the buyer chose wrong because the price was low or high. It happens because nobody agreed up front what work would be done and how it would be measured.
Why Comparing Monthly Prices Alone Leads to Bad Decisions
“Get 3-5 quotes and pick the cheapest.” SEO is not the same product everywhere. A quote of a few thousand baht and one of tens of thousands are usually different scopes. One may write a few articles a month without touching the site structure. Another may include technical fixes, content and manual link building. Without comparing the work list, comparing the number means nothing.
“Guaranteed #1 ranking.” Google’s own guidance on hiring an SEO says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google. If someone guarantees it, ask how. Shortcuts like buying links in bulk or private blog networks (PBNs) risk a ranking drop or a manual action.
“We can just write articles with AI.” AI drafts quickly, but Google values content with real experience, specific information, and a focus on readers (E-E-A-T and helpful content). Mass-produced content with no human review and nothing new rarely helps rankings, and can fall under scaled content abuse in Google’s spam policies.
Not every overseas link-building tactic works in Thailand. Emailing large English-language sites for links does little for a business whose customers are Thai. More useful links tend to come from local media, industry associations, business partners, and real activity in the area.
Freelance, Thai Agency and International Agency: What You Actually Get
Each fits a different situation. No option is best for every business.
| Freelance | Thai agency | International agency | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who does the work | Usually one person | A team with several roles | A large team, often with an account manager |
| Strengths | Affordable, you talk directly to the person doing the work | Covers technical, content and local | Structured process, strong in English-language markets |
| Watch out for | Work stops when that person is busy, knowledge sits with one person | Quality varies a lot between agencies | May not understand Thai search behaviour and platforms, higher cost |
| Good for | Small sites, specific fixes | Businesses that need both the website and Google Maps | Businesses selling mainly to overseas markets |
Rough market price ranges
These are broad ranges advertised in the Thai market, for orientation only. They are not Southern Whale’s prices, and every provider defines scope differently.
- Freelance: mostly a few thousand to low tens of thousands of baht a month
- Thai agencies: often start in the tens of thousands a month, up to hundreds of thousands for large or multilingual sites
- International agencies: usually priced in dollars and clearly above the Thai market
What makes SEO cost more or less
Before we talk about price, we look at these four things every time. Any provider should ask you the same.
- Value of one customer. Businesses where one customer is worth a lot, such as multi-night stays, tours or service contracts, can invest more in SEO than businesses with low order values.
- Competition. Look at page one for your main keyword: what kind of sites, how much content and how many links. Stronger competitors mean more work.
- Current state of the site. Sites with accumulated technical problems, duplicate content or a history of spam links need cleaning up first, so early costs are higher than for a site with sound foundations.
- Scope and languages. The number of pages, languages, and branches or areas you want in Google Maps directly affects the workload.
Work that should be in an SEO scope
- Technical: speed and Core Web Vitals (LCP, INP, CLS), indexing, sitemap, robots.txt, Schema, and hreflang for multilingual sites
- Content: pages that match the search intent of keywords that sell, with business-specific information, an identifiable author, and updates to older articles
- Links: earned through relationships and content people want to cite, not bought in packs
- Local SEO: Google Business Profile, consistent name, address and phone everywhere, and reviews from real customers
How to measure results
Keyword rankings are one metric. Better business signals are:
- Clicks and impressions in Search Console for keywords that sell
- Enquiries, bookings or orders from organic traffic in GA4
- Cost per customer from organic compared with other channels
- How many sites link to you, and how good they are
How to think about value: extra visitors × conversion rate × value of one customer = extra revenue
A hypothetical example: a hotel with an average booking value of 25,000 THB. If SEO brings 500 more visitors a month and 2% book, that is 10 bookings, or 250,000 THB a month. Compare that with what you pay for SEO. These numbers only illustrate the method. Use your own business’s numbers.
If one customer is worth very little and few people search for what you sell, SEO may not be the right main channel. Ads or local platform listings may pay off better at first.
How to Read an SEO Quote Line by Line
A good quote says what work you get each month, how much of it, and what is delivered. If it only says “monthly SEO” with no list, ask for details before signing.
A sensible order of work for most sites looks like this:
Start: audit and plan. A technical audit of the whole site, a check of incoming links, historical data from Search Console (about 16 months is kept), competitor analysis, keyword selection, and a 90-day plan with baselines for measurement.
Month 1: fix the foundations. Fix the technical issues found, improve the pages that bring revenue first, set up and improve Google Business Profile.
Month 2: content and local. Write or improve content to plan, rework internal links, make business details consistent across key listings.
Month 3: links and review. Start manual link building, update pages close to page one, and review 90-day results to adjust the plan.
Months 4-12: expand. Grow content clusters, adjust keywords based on real data, and add languages or areas once the foundations are solid.
Contracts and Guarantees to Turn Down
Hidden costs not on the quote. Ask for the full-year cost, not only the monthly fee, and ask exactly what is included: tool subscriptions such as Ahrefs or Semrush (prices change often, check the provider’s pricing page), articles beyond the agreed number, translation for multilingual sites, reporting tools, and urgent out-of-scope fixes.
Long contracts with no review points. SEO takes months to show results, so longer contracts make sense. But there should be a review every 3 months, written KPIs, and clear cancellation terms. Watch for contracts that renew automatically without notice.
Ranking guarantees. If a contract guarantees #1 or page one, treat it as a warning sign, not a selling point.
Not owning your own data and accounts. Search Console, GA4, Google Business Profile and the domain must be in your business’s name. The provider should only have access.
Switching providers too often. SEO results build over time. Every new provider needs time to understand the site. If the current one does good work but the scope is wrong, adjusting the scope is usually better than starting over.
How to Set a Budget for Your Business Size
There is no single right budget, but these principles help:
- Audit first. If you don’t know what’s wrong with the site, paying monthly straight away is paying without a plan.
- If there are many basic problems, use the first budget to fix them fully, then decide on monthly work. Some sites can be maintained in-house after that.
- If you have an in-house team, you can hire a consultant to plan and review, and let your team produce content.
- Give it several months before judging, and look at the trend in clicks and enquiries, not daily rankings.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much should monthly SEO cost?
It depends on site size, competition and the amount of work needed. In the Thai market it ranges from a few thousand to hundreds of thousands of baht a month. With Southern Whale, monthly SEO starts from 24,000 THB/year, with the scope confirmed after an audit. The most reliable way to get a sensible number is to audit the site first, then ask for an itemised quote.
Is cheap SEO any good?
It can be, if the scope is clear and matches what the site needs, such as a small site that needs specific fixes. Be careful with cheap offers that come with ranking promises or don’t say what work will be done.
How long does SEO take to show results?
Usually several months. Technical fixes and improving existing pages can show changes faster than new content or link building. Timing depends on competitors and the site’s starting condition. Nobody can promise an exact date.
Can anyone guarantee a #1 ranking?
No. Google itself says no one can guarantee rankings. If a provider guarantees it, ask in detail how they work before deciding.
Should I get an SEO audit before hiring monthly SEO?
Yes. An audit shows what is wrong, what to fix first, and how big the monthly scope should be. It also lets you compare quotes from different providers on the same basis.
